AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A check of ballots in Richmond County ultimately found Democratic presidential candidate Joseph Biden got more votes and President Donald got fewer votes than originally reported.

Trump received 26,767 votes in the county, while Biden got 59,142 votes, according to results from the state-ordered “audit” of presidential election votes in all Georgia counties. The original count after the Nov. 3 election showed Biden with 59,124 and Trump with 26,781.

The statewide audit results confirmed that Biden was the winner in Georgia, although as in Richmond County, there were some differences in the vote totals for a range of reasons.

The local results were reported Thursday by Richmond County Board of Elections Executive Director Lynn Bailey.

They differed slightly from earlier-reported results from the recount because there was an initial human error in entering the data. That mistake was caught by Voting Works, the company that developed the software that supported the audit, according to Bailey.

“I do apologize for any confusion on this,” Bailey said in a news release. “We are happy to have the audit completed and with the results.”
